Well I got my vitamin D influx for today!  Did you know that if once you have sunbathed if you jump in the shower and while still in the shower (but after the soapy part) you drizzle baby oil over yourself then get out and dry yourself then it locks in the vitamin D and within 24 hours instead of a nasty slightly pink  colour you turn a beautiful golden copper colour!  What you didn’t realise you didn’t know eh?  On another note we have been trying smoothies out today and our favourite for today is….

Sunrise Surprise

1/4 cup of orange juice
1/4 cup of apple juice
1/4 cup of milk
1 banana
1 teaspoon of honey
1 egg yolk

Talking about things you didn’t realise you didn’t know were you aware that raw egg whites have small amounts of anti-nutrients that inhibit digestion of some nutrients, particularly B vitamins. For this reason, raw egg yolks may be added to all smoothies, but whole raw eggs shouldn’t be eaten more than about 3-4 times a week.  Taken from Gary Moller online www.healthandlifestyle.co.nz

And last but not least tonight…..Aspartame quoted directly from Nikki Hart this weeks Woman’s Day

As a nutritional professional, I’m obligated to promote good science, especially when I see consumers being misled.  Here are some facts you should know about Aspartame 1) Aspartame is one of the most tested food additives in the world today.  Its safety is well documented.  2) Aspartame does not affect blood sugar, so is safe for people with diabetes to consume.  3) Eating and drinking products that contain Aspartame do not stimulate hunger cravings.  4) Aspartame does not make you fat.  In fact, it has been proven that Aspartame can facilitate long-term compliance with weight loss maintenance.

Aspartame quoted directly from the book The Chemical Maze.

Aspartame (number 951) - prepared from phenylalanine and aspartic acid: breaks down to methanol then formaldehyde in the body.  Potential effects: headache, depression, anxiety, asthma, fatigue, hyperactivity, MS like symptoms, blindness, aggression, migraine, insomnia, dizziness, irritability, epilopsy, memory loss, seizures, NRC (not recommended for children) and women during pregnancy and is a teratogenic which as we all know is a product capable of causing defects in a developing foetus.

You know, if I was pregnant I wouldn’t be taking the risk and I certainly wouldn’t be giving it to my young one but far from me to be a pain in the butt….make your own choices and your own decisions!

Food today: brekkie - banana smoothie, lunch - another type of banana smoothie (sunrise surprise - I do my best thinking after 11am lol) snack - cruskits with tuna and gherkin and dinner will be hot roast lamb sandwiches in fresh ciabatta bread with salad and no doubt choc somewhere lol

Quote of the day: If you can’t be good, be smart  :)
