Horse Sense....

So Chew has found out how to eat the chicken food.

This is quite impressive, because it was particularly made to keep out predators.

Chew took that as a challenge.

So never mind that it is magnatized, and has no way of being opened unless you step on it with delicate chicken feet, on a particular part, for a certain period of time, or press a button (if you are human) no no, I got up this morning and Chew had emptied the whole bloody thing.

And it was still upright.

I bloody swear, he does this on purpose.

Not because he wants to actually eat the chicken feed, he just likes to show me he can.

****

Chew's sulking and I'm pissed.

Because one of us was tap tapping chicken feed until almost 4am this morning, and one of us was trying to sleep.

Neither of us got what we wanted.

Now Chew is in time out in the paddock, and I'm trying to re-Zen.

Let us just say that our wants, needs and desires, are not in alignment, and leave it at that.

****

So Chew's wandering round the paddock looking all, wounded pride and hurt expression while I'm all, If you keep me awake again until 4am tap tap munch...tap tap munch...again, you will be car seat covers and slippers.

And do not go, Oooooooooooooohhhhhhh...and all sooky la la on him...

He did do it.  He's not sorry.  His IQ is 170.

And Boo-ba-licious is a bloody joy to have around.

He is sooooooo cute when he gets his game on.  He runs round the paddock like a bloody lunatic...it's bloody beautiful to watch.

And Mumma is so good with him.  She still looks out for him, making sure that he doesn't get into too much trouble, and that's really cute to see.

But it is the relationship between him and Cappy which is the best to watch.

He emulates him.  So if something new comes up, he watches Cappy to see what he does first.  Then copies it.

I love watching that.  I love to see Boo-ba learning how to be a horse, with correct mannerisms, and to learn how to interact with humans.  Not how to do stuff like an adult horse, but how to be with a human.

It's awe inspiring.

OMG...the weather is sooooooooo bad here.

Admittedly, not as bad as the South Island where they are evacuating, however, it is seriously not nice.

I am so damn grateful to be able to work with Spirit like I do though.

Every damn fence that we fixed, corrected or made new, every hot tape that we did, and the extra sand we put down, well, it's paid for itself time and time and time again.

My horses may not be 100% happy as I'm writing this, but they have warm, clean and dry shelter, strong fences and mucho food.

It's as good as it gets.

Ok, wait...another two things which may, or may not, be of interest, but worth noting:

1) Mumma is self regulating on her food.

I noticed this ages ago, and if we go back a few years, Sequoia was my original horse who taught me how to use herbs properly.  How to listen to the rhythm of your cycle and then ride the Energy.

Well, Mumma does exactly the same.  Mostly everyone is on two meals a day, I try for morning and night, but it can be later in the morning and early at night, and on the odd occasion, breakfast, then another breakfast/dinner.

The horses never complain.

But with Mumma, periodically she needs lunch.  When she does she mosseys on up to the house and waits for it.  It's the oddest thing.  She doesn't do it every day, or even every week, just when she needs extra for her milk production.

2) I've watched Az do the same.

He gets sugar hooves, but when I moved him in with all the other horses I said to him, You can stay here right up until you get sugar hooves.  If you get them...back in paddock by yourself.

As I'm writing this, he hasn't got them again.

But by rights he should have.

****

I'm slowly  but surely, getting more eggs on a daily basis.  Up to almost 3 a day, which is pretty good, however, I'm aiming for 5 eggs for 6 chickens.  I am not counting Chuck in this chicken count, because she stopped laying ages ago and just never re-started.  She's not sick or old, she just went, Nup, no more eggs.

Well. ok then.

****

No peacock as I'm writing this.

So that's been our week:

We're not really accomplishing anything of importance, nothing which I can go, Whooooooo...look at us...

It's just really beautiful here.

Big hugs and horsey kisses from us here, to you there.

Caps, me, Spirit, Az, Ralph, Chew, Suz, and of course, my beautiful Mumma Bear, Belle and Boo-ba-licious, Pat, Chuck, Daisy, Delilah and Donz and our chickens, Rose, Petal, Kai-Anne, Pepper, Lily, and Shelley.
