Horse Sense....

So Belle's just been a bit Meh... and her glands were up last night, so I text our Vet this morning and Belle had her first bloods done today at lunch.

I am such a fan of blood tests.  Well, put it this way, I'm a big fan because they tell us a story.  What we're getting right and what we're not and it allows us not to use medication, because we directly deal with the issue.

Because we find the issue.

You can't dodge a blood test - it tells you where things are high and it tells you where things are low.  There's no room for maybe's.

The Vets love doing the bloods on both Mumma and Belle, because they get new stuff to play with.  I've found that Vets love to play and find out new information.

Anyway, done in the paddock as per normal.  Ruby stayed close and held her hoof, so she didn't get scared.  And she didn't.  But it was so awesome to watch Ruby rest her neck on Belle so she didn't get all antsy.  Their depth of emotions blows me away.

We also double checked food/vitamins/minerals/new stuff to make sure nothing was obviously in your face wrong and that seemed ok, so now we just wait.

A highly successful day.

So Belle has germs.  Not huge ones, just enough to cause some issues with the wrong blood cells being up.  Our lovely Vet offered immediate medication which we (I) politely declined.  And the reason is simple:  I'm raising a strong horse.

And if I have learnt anything over the last 10 weeks, it's that what you put into your body either heals or harms.  And medication harms by doing what the body should be doing itself.  The body should be strong enough to cope with most germs, if it is not, then you need to check why not.  Find the original sin, then fix it.  Medication just fixes the obvious problem but while fixing one area, it causes another area to go out.  Like the balance of the tummy.

Anyway, we (the Vet and I) decided that I have until Monday (4 days from now) to get Belle right with herbs, vitamins, minerals etc.  But if she gets any worse then I have to call them immediately.

I can work with that.

And on another random note:  Do you remember me saying about Chew's jacket that broke?  Well, I took it back to the shop.

They refused to refund.  No big surprise there, but it works out that the tummy strap hadn't ripped off but the stitching had come undone.  I politely explained that that was a manufacturing fault and I don't expect a top-of-the-line product to crumble at the first hiccup.  They, not so politely, told me, and I quote, It's your horses fault he ruined it.  Anyway, just be grateful that you didn't get a Vet bill!

I just walked out.  I don't argue with stupid.

And with another product I took back, because of disgusting sweat stains, not just on the inside but also the outside, I was told, It's not our fault you sweat, it's not designed for that.

*sigh*

But anyhou, for every not so great business with shoddy products, there's some really phenomenal peeps out there who do love their work and products.  Peeps that I have, do and will continue to support on a daily, weekly or monthly basis.

Money, money, money...money, money, money...

Belle is noticeably improving, which is good considering the crap weather we've been having.  Still new bloods on Monday though.  And she's a bit over all the herbs and vitamins, she's like, Too many veges...

She's so cutie.

Caps also decided today that no how, no way was he being wormed.  He was all snuggle like then realized what was happening with Az and Mumma, and skedalled down the paddock and refused to come back.  Shelle was like, You might have mentioned he didn't like being wormed...

Anyway, he finally got wormed when he leant over the fence to munch on lunch that I was holding, while Shelle gently haltered, then wormed him.

And I bloody ran over/into/whatever the bloody hot fence today.

I stopped to (technically) undo it and drive through, but then watched horses to see if Az really did have worms, and was Mumma in good condition?  Then hopped back in car and drove into gate.

Let's just say the comment, Why does that not surprise me... was the most positive and leave it at that.

Oh, and Belle is getting her vaccine on Monday.  For strangles (?) and tetanus.  People always think that I am an anti-vaxer but that's not true.  I'm just pro strong body/strong mind.   I put all my Energy into making a body the strongest, healthiest and cleanest it can possibly be.  I'm anti medication for all the little things but am negotiable on the larger things.

And talking about that, Belle's stronger because of how her and I have just worked.  She learnt how to heal herself (although this is only the very early stages) and her body has made antibodies, so that the next time she comes into contact with germs, they will have to be stronger and bigger nasty ass germs than the ones she has just had.

We've done the first physical building block to making her immune system strong.

So I did the big winter no no - I woke up this morning, felt the cold air around me, saw it was still dark so rolled over and promptly went back to sleep.  Quite obviously, I ran late for every part of my day from there on in.

However, my horses were all forgiving, they understand my recluse like attitude towards the cold.

And Belle was awesome for our Vet, Kara.  Had more bloods done (they better come back awesome), strangles and tetanus (1st of 3), was wormed and was an absolute rockstar.

She's so cute.

Anyway, she hasn't been wormed because I had been using that natural wormer, then she was with the other foals and then Miss Ruby.  I'm still not happy with commerical wormers but if she is with another little one, which she is, she should be wormed.  I didn't have to, per se, but I don't want her having worms.  And I'm sort of stuck at the moment.  That natural stuff was ok, but I truly don't think it works like they say it does.  I mean, don't get me wrong, it kills worms, we proved that, but I'm not 100% sold on it.  There's something which just doesn't fit right for me, and I always trust that feeling.

And most certainly not for the price they were charging.

But to be fair, we're getting a lot of success at the moment so you know, until I can find a wormer that does work amazing, I'll just have to suck it up and hope that we're doing so well in the other areas that the wormer won't do too much harm.

No soy, lots of herbs and mucho Touch/play is what I'm concentrating on, and so far, fingers crossed and hooves tapped, we're doing ok.

Oh...almost forgot, Mumma and Little Boo are happily communicating now, and voluntarily participating in Touch/play.

So that's been our week:  Damn busy.  I feel like there is just never quite enough hours in the day at the moment, which to be fair is true, because there is not a huge amount of daylight.  I like daylight at 5am in the morning right through to 10pm at night.  Anything less and I feel well, a little ripped off.

However, if we can move past that particular thing, we're getting great results.  Mumma's happy (which means Little Boo is happy), Caps is happy, Az is super happy (now I feed him in a separate paddock, and he actually gets to eat his feed without Caps or Mumma snaffling it), the little ones are happy, the Big E is always happy (he's like a cuddle on legs) and Belle is mostly happy.  She wants molassas.

I'm happy if I'm in direct sunlight with the horses, or the fire is going and I'm watching the horses through the window.

But all jokes aside, we've had some good success.

And at least it's not snowing as I'm writing this, although I wish the dumbass who's randomly shooting (and hopefully missing) would stop, it sounds really close and extremely loud.

Bring on bikini's, coconut oil and suntans, baby.

Big hugs and horsey kisses from us here, to you there.

Caps, me, Spirit, Az, Ralph, Chew, Suz, the Big E, and of course, my beautiful Mumma Bear, Belle and Little Boo

And Belle's bloods came back awesome, although her worm count was a little high at 500.

But since we fixed that yesterday by de-worming, we're all good to go.

Boom, baby.
