Horse Sense....

Why did you not remind me that I am not a professional horse person but rather, a chick who talks to horses?

I know!  You're very naughty.

Anyhou, moving right along.  This came up because I wanted to bring Mary up, take her jacket off and have a looksee and Mr B said, You be careful.  She is a race horse and you've been feeding but not exercising her, for almost 3 weeks.

Hmmmmmm, good point 99.

So, he helped me bring her up and then Mary and I hung out.  And had the hugest amount of fun.  Checked her out, saw what was working and what needs tweaking.  Added in more herbs and vitamins and upped her feed.  She's slightly less juicy than I would like.  However, overall her condition is really good and I'm happy.  I stopped a herb 10 days ago because I literally ran out and haven't been able to source it since, however, she's better when she has it.  Added and tweaked but we're consistently moving forward so I'm happy.  I ended up trading B's hands on experience for some of my time.  A brilliant deal if I do say so myself.

But seriously, lots of my friends are professional horse people so because I hang out with them, I tend to forget that I have not the same actual hands on experience.  On a good note, I'm a huge believer that if you want to learn, hang round people who are better than you.

But let's face it, talking to horses is kind of cool, and I'm only able to do it because I'm soft and gentle with the horses.  So, I'm going to keep working like this because it brilliant for me and fantastic for the horses.

Don't fix what's not broken.

However, while I'm chatting, it's also back to Hands on, Stables 101.

Races were good, a little crazy when one rogue horse after winning, decided to take off and cause some chaos and mayhem, but horse is fine and no persons were harmed.

Mares is super happy as I've upped her food.  Horses at home are also pretty happy.

And we've had some pretty big rain here.  We flooded which is not, if I'm honest, that unusal but it is early for winter.  Normally we don't flood until later.  However, give it 24 hours and we'll be dry again, we have excellent drainage.  However, nothing gets done with the horses when it rains so it's been pretty quiet on the actual doing stuff front.

Mares is great though.  I've upped her food which she is seriously happy about, and with it being so wet I've added boiling water to mix her feed, rather than just cold tap water.  Honestly, she took a bite today, looked at me as if she didn't quite get me, then happily went back eating.  But boiling water is an Old Wives Tale.  They say that it warms the tummy like porridge and heats the body and the soul from the inside out.  Personally, I think it is just a human kindness and the horses know this, and fall just a teensy bit in love with us because of it.

On another note, another Old Wives Tale is if you have a sick animal you have to get up at 3am and feed them Vitamim C (Absorbic not Sodium) or Molassas or a Vitamin Boost.  3am is the Death Hour which is the time where the soul is at it's lowest ebb and most vunerable, so you need to stand with it and lend it your Energy while giving it a physcial boost.

I know!  How super cool.

It's funny with one of the horses at the stables at the moment though, he wants to learn how to be with a human.  But he keeps freaking out on me, so it goes like this...

Hey cutie pie, how you doing this morning?

Good...

And then he takes off to the other end away from me.

Then we spend time with him coming forward then going away, he's so confused about how he should act.

But anyway, today I was like, Would you like a human kiss?

And there he is hanging his head out towards me, pretending he doesn't care one way or another but not moving an inch.

He had his kiss.

So, that's been our week:  Just finding our best way forward.

May you walk in peace with Spirit.

Wishing you much love my friends, and of course, my humans.

Caps, me, Spirit, Az, Ralph, Chew, Suzie Q, Buzz-the-Bl**dy-Bull, Fenny (who could quite possibly be the cutest cow in the whole wide Universe), and Flash (who is a close second).  NO rat.  Ha!

I've just spent 15 minutes standing at the gate waiting to feed Mares.  Seriously.  And it goes like this...

Mares loves her boiling water feed.  So, was waiting at the gate for me, however, she was sideways at the gate blocking me from going in, with the feed bucket on the other side of her.  I tried giving her a few hand waves which she ignored.  I tried giving her a nudge which just made her pretend I didn't exist, so I banged the feed bucket on the gate a few times...which made not one iota of difference.

We had a mexican standoff.

Obviously, I hoped no one was watching.  Murphy's Law, people were.  And wondering what the h*ll I was doing.

Which was nothing.

I tried talking to her, explaining what I wanted.  She gave this gutteral noise explaining she was hungry and wanted food right this minute.

And kept standing at the gate, blocking all access.

Of which case I got my hump on and refused to move into paddock until she moved.

I also pretended I didn't see anyone watching me.

And we waited and waited and waited.  Then waited some more.

And then Boom! she moved.  To her feed bucket and stood there waiting, looking at me with her beautiful brown eyes all mooshie like.

I put her food in her bucket and she happily ate, while I gave her a bit of a scratch and nuzzle and played with her ears.

It was the first time she got that soft and gentle, doesn't mean I'm a push over.

** My little cutie saw me a couple of times today and was quite bashful but tonight, when no one else was around he was like, Kiss?
