Making a balm

Making a balm is seriously one of the easiest things you can do. I personally love making a balm because I love picking the plants, feeling their energy and then capturing the magic in a balm. There are lots of ways of making a balm but I use a very simple method.

1) With Spirits blessing pick your plant. Remember to tell the plant why you are using it and more importantly, who. This allows you to pick the right plant.

2) Add 100mls of Almond oil to 10 grams of beeswax. If you need more oil, that's fine, add it, but keep to the same basic equation. In a bay-marie bring to boil then turn down so to a simmering so you don't burn the plant. To keep it simple I put my little finger in - if it burns, too hot for plant. Too cold? Not hot enough for plant to release its magic. I let my plants simmer for about 2 to 3 hours but you can tell because they "smell" ready.

3) When ready put through a sieve so that only the oil is left. Put into jug and then pour immediately into little jars. Leave to set. Voila! Label and date. Put plant remains back into garden with Spirits blessing.
